H2S Control recently provided an odor control solution for Marion County to address odor complaints in a highly-populated retirement community that surrounds a wastewater treatment facility (WWTF). The WWTF is located at the highest elevation in the neighborhood and is surrounded by homes along the plant fence line. The County needed a complete odor control solution to treat all odors and eliminate complaints. H2S Control designed a 5,000 SCFM odor control system that includes a HIBOCS-1500 biological trickling filter and HICARB-250 carbon absorption system to treat the headworks, equalization basins, and digesters at the facility. This design incorporates operational flexibility so the plant can handle varying loads associated with seasonal population changes and provide the operators the flexibility to utilize the HIBOCS as a stand-alone system during periods of lower H2S loadings by simply bypassing the HICARB system. As H2S loadings increase, the operators can immediately react to odor issues by opening a valve on the inlet to the HICARB unit. By only using the HICARB carbon system during periods of high loading, operations and maintenance costs associated with carbon replacements are drastically reduced.
